29 Sep NextGen Scholars Build Community at the I Am Amazing Event
NextGen students from schools across the Charlotte community joined together for the I Am Amazing event, a day centered on personal growth, service, and mentorship.
In partnership with members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., NextGen students participated in interactive group activities and put service into action by assembling feminine hygiene packages for young women in need. Keynote speaker Tragil Wade with America’s Big Sisters shared her personal story of perseverance, encouraging students to overcome obstacles and pursue their goals.
Attendees left the event feeling inspired by the shared sense of community and connection. “My experience at the ‘I Am Amazing’ event was very eye-opening. Not only because we were all females in one space but because there was other who could relate to my experiences while growing up…I really enjoyed meeting Tragil Wade…She’s an example of rising above any challenge and winning despite all she went through. It really shows that if you’re determined enough you can do anything,” shared Julia Patterson, Julius L. Chambers High School.
“The I Am Amazing event was an amazing experience. Me and my peers were able to collaborate with other ladies from different schools. the speakers were amazing and I was able to take a lot of great information and event connect with Mrs. Tragil Wade,” said Rian Rousseve, West Charlotte High School.
Students walked away feeling empowered and connected.
